The Fish House

To begin the Barnwell Cottage blog, we had to start with a recommends post on one of our top places to dine, as keen foodies ourselves, theres nothing we love more than spending an evening with good food in an idyllic setting.

The Fish House

The Fish House in Newquay has a picturesque outlook over Fistral Beach, from this panoramic viewpoint you can let your mind wonder as the hustle of beach life happens all around you. When the swell is working watch endless wave riders enjoy catching sliders at the pinnacle surf sport North Fistral, this is the furthest point up the beach and where the wave creates its best shape - encouraging the top riders of this challenging sport.

As you browse the menu and sip on crisp white wine or local Cornish ales the friendly staff are happy to offer recommendations and advise on their specials board. The fish is locally caught and fresh from the days catch, the open plan kitchen invites you to meet chef and owner Paul Harwood who is inspired by this exceptional location and this is evident in the exceptional flavours he creates in every dish. My personal favourite on the menu has to be the Indian fish curry, Paul cooks this dish to suite your spice levels and the fish of the day varies based on the local market.

The Fish House

Across the horizon is Pentire Headland which is famous for watching sunsets and overlooking Crantock Beach, during Spring and Summer the sun sets right in front of The Fish House and on a clear evening you might even spot the green flash lighting up the horizon as the last dot of light illuminates the ocean.

We recommend booking in advance as this popular restaurant gets booked up fast throughout the summer and weekends. You can call The Fish House on 01637 872085 or visit their website: https://www.thefishhousefistral.com.
